When NYC is the setting for a movie, the Upper West Side is often the star. It’s a centerpiece of “Ghostbusters” and “When Harry met Sally” and dozens of other films. So, what’s so appealing about the Upper West Side? At Arlo Hotel NYC we have the inside scoop.
One of the primary attractions of the Upper West Side is of course Central Park. Look up real estate prices in the area and the places with park views are also going to fetch a few million more. The park adds some softness to the area that’s hard to find in other neighborhoods.
For a “nosh” in the Upper West Side, you must visit Barney Greengrass. This place is an institution that deserves its lofty reputation. Grab a bagel with some sturgeon and prepare to have one of the best breakfasts you’ve ever experienced. There are hundreds of great eateries in the neighborhood, featuring everything from a quick bite to the latest high-end French cuisine.
For culture and entertainment, the Upper West Side is home to Lincoln Center, a massive complex that features multiple performing arts organizations. Enjoy the New York City Ballet’s latest performances or enjoy some Jazz at Lincoln Center. There’s also Beacon Theatre, which opened in 1929 and features great plays and musical acts including the Rolling Stones and others set in a splendid art deco building.
The Upper West Side is home to the massive American Museum of Natural History, which includes the amazing dinosaur wing and Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. You can spend an entire day in this museum and not see everything. We encourage our Arlo Hotel NYC guests to conquer the museum in sections at a more relaxed pace. Don’t try to cram it all in at once. And that’s sound advice for seeing NYC. Stay active and see the sights, but remember people spending a lifetime in Manhattan and haven’t “seen it all.” So, take your time and enjoy every minute.
